9800 QWERTY Keyboard Phone With Slim Design – Pros, Cons, Specs And Opinion

One of the things that sets a phone apart from competitor’s is its design.  Does that mean that the 9800 china phone successfully accomplishes this?  

Like many China made phone’s, the 9800 invokes a more famous model phone for its name.  Can you guess what it is?  It’s supposed to make you think of Blackberry’s newer 9800 Bold.  If you look at a side by side pic though, you can see that rather than copy and paste Blackberries Bold design, the makes have actually made a semi original one.  Shocking as it may be, can it be that this is a phone that people might say actually looks pretty nice?

Here are the China made 9800′s basic specifications.

It is one of the thinnest phones to have ever been released from China at only 9mm (.35 inches) thick.
Input is done via its full QWERTY keyboard with raised keys, but the screen is not touchscreen capable.
The total weight, including a installed battery, is a very low 115gms.
Total measurements are (LxWxH) 113x56x9mm.
The screen size measures 2.2 inches, is made of TFT, and has a resolution of 240×320.
The phone comes quad band unlocked, so it can be used on any 4 GSM networks.
It includes dual SIM ports which will allow two SIM cards to be used at the same time with dual standby.
It comes built with CE standard PCP plastic for its outer casing.
Internet can be accessed by GPRS and WAP 2.0.
The battery life should typically average about 70 to 90 hours on standby.
The phone is java enabled, meaning you can install java apps such as games to the phone.
Extras include: a camera, a camcorder, an eBook reader, an analog TV receiver, a FM radio, and a MP3 player and MP4 player.
The phone’s multimedia options are a MP3 and MP4 player, a camera and camcorder, an eBook reader, an analog TV, and a FM radio.
Included with the phone is a faux leather case that has a built in emergency battery that gives you an additional 20 hours of standby time.

After playing around with the 9800 China phone, here are my thoughts on the biggest pros and cons:

Pros
Its design is very well done with smoothly rounded curves, a very thin profile, and a very low weight.
For both protecting the phone and extending the battery life, the included phone case is a good deal.
Pre-installed apps are both useful and nice to have, and with the ability to add more, the phone can potentially have many additional functions.
The phone’s OS is competently built and easy to use, even if it is not full of bells and whistles.
Being both raised and well spaced, the QWERTY keys are easy and fast to use.
One would assume that a phone that looks like this would be a lot more expensive than its 73 dollar price tag.

Cons
It is annoying to not be able to access the internet at EDGE (let alone 3G) speeds.
The makers would have been smarter to include a larger screen, as 2.2 inches might be a bit small for some.

It may have name that confuses, but this 9800 is not your standard China copy and really is a nice lightweight QWERTY phone with a few nice extras that might make it worth a purchase.
